Play Lab began in 2013 as a series of pop-up play installations in Bellingham, Washington. What began as a few events that first summer blossomed into invitations to partner with community groups, including Make.Shift Art Space, the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, the Bellingham Public Library, Bellingham Parks and Recreation, the Bellingham Farmer’s Market, and more.
In 2017, Play Lab was awarded a Tiny Fellowship by 4.0 Schools to design a pilot program, expanding Play Lab programming. An after school enrichment program was piloted at Alderwood Elementary School in winter 2018, and has grown to offer after school enrichment for K-2 at nine elementary schools in the Bellingham School District.
